Blakelaw Centre & Library

Blakelaw Centre and Library was opened by Newcastle City Council in 2002, in 2016 the library and community centre were under threat due to budget pressures within the City Council and the charity was formed with a view to saving the building and community provision.

Since 2016, the building has become a thriving community asset, used by at least 2500 people per week. Within the community centre, we now have a Post Office and retail shop, library, learning hive, children and young people’s programme, community café, nursery provision, welfare rights advice, bingo and a number of community activities.

Blakelaw Post Office

Blakelaw Post Office is a franchise directly managed by Newcastle Community Asset Trust who employ the staff and oversee the day to day running of the business.

This post office franchise is the only one in the country where 100% of the profit goes back into the local community. Blakelaw is a mains office with a range of services available including, car tax, banking, payments, holiday insurance, travel money cards, letters and parcels, mobile top-ups and more.

Community Market Opening

Blakelaw Community Market

The Community Market stocks food donated by local supermarkets. It provides local people with affordable food and reduces landfill waste. The Community Market is open only on the days we get donations. Please join our facebook page for updates on opening days/ times.

The Library

Blakelaw Library is open on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 1-5pm and is directly funded by NCAT since 2016.

We have a range of adult and children’s literature, computers are available for use during these times.

Community Counselling

Community Counselling is a FREE service managed by NCAT in partnership with Newcastle College. This service provides support to people who are currently facing personal difficulties including; Depression, Anxiety, Low self-esteem, Bereavement, family issues, domestic violence, suicide and many others. This service is for Men, Woman and children. Bingo

Every Wednesday and Friday 6pm – 9pm located in Blakelaw Community Centre Library. No booking required – just turn up. Everyone welcome, open to all ages.
